DocuSign powers agreement workflows for over 1.5 million paying customers and 1 billion users worldwide. Despite its scale, the DocuSign app center includes fewer than 30 public extensions. SaaS founders and product leaders can build extensions that solve workflow challenges for industries like healthcare, finance, real estate, and government.
What is a Docusign extension app?
An extension app extends the DocuSign platform by integrating external capabilities, such as Google Drive or Stripe. Developers use extensions to embed new functionality into DocuSign workflows, connecting it to other tools or automating specific tasks. As of now, extensions remain a new feature of the DocuSign platform, reflected by the limited number of apps in the app center.
It’s important to note that the DocuSign app center doesn’t currently offer a direct way to monetize extensions. Instead, extensions provide a way for leaders of existing SaaS products or software tools to gain visibility and embed their solutions into the workflows of DocuSign’s 1.5 million paying customers.
DocuSign powers critical business flows
Organizations across industries rely on DocuSign to manage agreement workflows. These include 3,000 government agencies, 14 of the top 15 Fortune 500 healthcare companies, and SMBs in over 180 countries. DocuSign supports onboarding, compliance, and approvals, which form essential parts of daily operations. However, gaps in the available integrations leave workflows in industries like HR, finance, and real estate without tailored solutions.
The app center is still tiny
The DocuSign app center features ~25 public extensions, leaving industries and workflows with limited integration options. In contrast, marketplaces like Shopify or Salesforce host hundreds or thousands of apps that cover a wide range of use cases. DocuSign users often lack specialized tools to address their needs, which gives SaaS companies a clear path to visibility and impact by building extensions in this less crowded ecosystem.
Reviews and forums highlight integration opportunities
Feedback from G2 reviews and Reddit discussions highlights recurring themes in user needs:
- HRIS Integrations: Connect onboarding workflows to HR systems for smoother hiring processes.
- Reporting: Deliver better analytics to track and optimize signed document workflows.
- Template Creation: Simplify the design, customization, and management of reusable templates for contracts and proposals.
These use cases illustrate where SaaS integrations can provide value by addressing inefficiencies in DocuSign workflows.
