If you’re building a tool for developers, documentation is more than just a necessity—it’s a key differentiator. Good docs can be the deciding factor between someone choosing your product or a competitor’s, or even having to reach out for support. For a while, I kept my “docs” in Notion—a quick and easy solution. But Notion isn’t built for documentation. As I shift my focus to building and managing add-ons to sell directly at Lunch Pail Labs rather than for clients, upgrading my docs became a must.

Why the Switch to Mintlify?

I love Notion. It’s the backbone of Lunch Pail Labs—managing projects, interacting with clients, and housing internal docs. Even this blog is powered by Notion! But when it comes to developer-centric documentation, I needed something purpose-built. Enter Mintlify.

Mintlify won me over for a few reasons:
  • Developer-Focused: Designed specifically for technical documentation, Mintlify offers features that make it easier for developers to navigate and understand complex technical content.
  • Effortless Maintenance: Push updates directly to the repository, and Mintlify automatically syncs them—no extra steps needed.
  • Polished & Professional: While Notion can be customized, I wanted a tool that companies like Flatfile, Anthropic, and ElevenLabs trust for their docs. Mintlify’s professional edge, combined with powerful features like AI-enhanced search, made it the clear choice.

The Transition

Moving from Notion to Mintlify was smoother than expected. Notion’s content is written in Markdown, which made migration easy, and organizing the new docs was an opportunity to rethink the structure.

Next, I’ll be excited to see how this upgraded documentation will reduce support requests and improve user acquisition for the add-ons I’m building (and I’ll be sure to report back for curious minds!).
